Have you been injured due to a vehicle accident?
Be Prepared.
-
Call 911
The first step is to call 911. Your health and safety is top priority. Err on the side of caution when determining whether to go to the E.R. even if the pain may seem minimal at the time because your adrenaline can minimize what your body just sustained.
-
Gather Evidence & Only State Facts
POLICE STATEMENT - The police officer will want you to provide a statement. Only state facts of what you know occured and refrain from giving opinions or speculating.
PICTURES - Try to get pictures of the damage to both vehicles and/or property that may have been damaged. Get pictures of the skid marks and anything you think was effected by the accident.
WITNESS - If there are any witnesses, then try to get their contact information in the event they are needed in the future.
-
Call Your Car Insurance to Make a Claim
It is important to go ahead and file a claim as soon as possible because car insurance companies require that claims be made within a short period of time after the accident.
When should I contact an attorney?
THE SOONER, THE BETTER
Alabama is one of the few states where the law of contributory negligence still exists. Contributory negligence means that if you are even (1%) one-percent at fault for the accident, then you are completely barred from recovering compensation. An experienced attorney os going to fight to defend your best interest by conducting a thorough investigation of what occurred at the scene, and will negotiate with the insurance company to ensure the valuation of your claim is accurate.
